When Mitsubishi closed its doors all those years ago it was the end of a long and memorable place in South Australia’s history. Some iconic and technological products rolled out of the MAB over the years which included ‘Wheels Car of the Year’ in 1972, the Valient Charger and a revolutionary engine, the Hemi-6, which was only available into Australia. It possessed 20% greater fuel economy, and was the most powerful six-cylinder, performing more like an V8!

Fast forward to 2012 and the rejuvenation of the MAB and the Tonsley site begins with the birth of the Tonsley Innovation district. The aim to create a vibrant community of like-minded businesses that collaborate towards their successes.

In 2017, Smith Management Group, excited by the potential of the MAB, took out a strategic land lease in the centre of the Innovation District to create a ‘Modular’ shared office space to further foster start-up growth and enable them to grow with flexible space options.

To enable a quick delivery of the project Smith Management Group secured another key building in the Tonsley complex, ‘Western Plant’. The 7,500sqm manufacturing site delivered the capacity to manufacture the ‘Modules’ locally and move them into space quickly.

2020, T8 Tonsley, welcomed it’s first tenants that have grown for small beginnings to professionals in the chosen fields. At 100% capacity and delighted to have businesses at all stages of progression, some at humble beginnings and others going onto bigger and brighter futures.
